What’s Holding You Back From Moving Abroad?
(Or what threatened to stop you that you overcame?)
Happy Sunday, friends!
Hope you are all still enjoying your start to 2025 — everyone sticking to those NY resolutions?
We’re back with another simple Sunday Survey for ya. This one is all about obstacles — namely the one getting in the way of you and your dream life.
Here it is:
What’s holding you back from moving abroad?
Or, if you’re already abroad, what almost stopped you from taking the leap?
Moving abroad isn’t all sunsets and sangria — sometimes it’s fears, hurdles, and more paperwork than you ever thought possible. But here’s the thing: everyone’s story is different, and we want to hear yours.
💬 Your Story Matters: Got a different hurdle or a victory tale? Share it with us in the comments or reply to this email — your experiences inspire us all.
🔖 Let’s Keep It Personal
Substack polls are anonymous, but your comments bring the real magic. Tell us what’s holding you back or what you overcame, and help shape the conversations we’re having here.
🎁 3 Months Free, Just For Sharing
Complete the poll and share your story, and we’ll gift you 3 months of paid subscription. It’s our way of saying thanks for being part of this amazing community. (And yes, we are still planning to gift those who did so on last week’s survey!)
Let’s talk, connect, and dream a little together. 💛

Each time I’ve moved, finding the right community has been one of the most important aspects for me. It’s why I stayed in Mexico City for as long as I did and why I fell in love with Rome. (Whereas Playa Del Carmen, on the other hand, didn’t do it for me!) I’ve just landed in Italy and am deciding where to base myself next. I want to check out places in both Italy and Spain. My daughter is 2 so there’s much more to consider this time as well 😅💛
I’m ready to go, emotionally and financially (savings-wise), but I’m trying to sort through visas/ red tape. As someone in her 30s, it’s more complicated than when I was in my 20s and studying abroad. There are less visas available to me, but I also want to set myself up for success. I.e. go somewhere I can make it work long term rather than having to uproot again if my visa ran out.
